Notes: Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers, is a castle at the town of Les Trois-Moutiers in the Poitou-Charentes region of France. Located in the midst of a large wood stands the Château de la Motte-Chandeniers a former stronghold of the illustrious Bauçay family, lords of Loudun. The stronghold dates to the thirteenth century and was originally called Motte Bauçay (or Baussay). The Motte Baussay was taken twice by the English in the middle ages and devastated during the French Revolution. It was bought in 1809 by François Hennecart, a wealthy businessman who undertook to restore its former glory. But it passed in 1857 to Baron Joseph Lejeune. In 1932 a major fire destroyed most of the buildings in the castle.

The castle was left untouched until in 1981, Marc Deyemer bought the land with the hope to restore it but unfortunately, Deyemer was never able to rebuild it and the castle remained in ruin..

Later on, The Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers and the surrounding forest were sold to Crédit Lyonnais (A french bank) who divided the land to be able to sell it in smaller parts so now, many different landowners own several parts of the area..

Today, seeing Château de la Mothe-Chandeniers up close is breathtaking, But most of the ruins suffer the passage of time and nature is already taking over in it. The only part that's still intact is the chapel.. But its moat and walls can still tell us its rich history and how elegant once it has been..

It's sad to think many of historic and incredibly fascinating castles in the world fell into disrepair and abandoned like this, I wonder how magnificent it would look if only it were rebuilt.. What can you say? Please share your thoughts with us in the comment section below..
