It is now in ruins, only the tower is still around. The first trace of the castle dates back to 1180 when Garin de Chateauneuf, lord of Apcher and co-lord of Chateauneuf-Randon, honors the bishop of Mende Aldebert III du Tournel. From the family of Randon, Garin had married Alix Apchier, last heir of the first family of Apchier. On 18 May 1983 the chapel and tower are classified as historical monument.
