Notes: Château de Calmont d'Olt is a castle located in Espalion (Aveyron). Perched on a basaltic dyke at 535 meters above sea level, it overlooks 200 meters of the city of Espalion and the Lot Valley, with panoramic views of the Aubrac Mountains. Etymologically, Calmont contains the pre-Indo-European root calm-, very common to refer to a bare height. Olt is the Occitan name of Lot, whose castle overlooks the valley; mention this to distinguish the site of the town of Calmont de Plancatge, south of Rodez, in the same department, and the Calmont Haute-Garonne. The castle and the meager remains of the chapel, including the second chamber are subject to a classification as historical monuments since 10 February 1992.
