Notes: The castle of Geniez, Geniez or Geniès, is a castle located in Sauliac-sur-Célé, France.According to A. Foissac, the castrum of Geniès was entrusted in 1234 to the family of Geniès by a Cardaillac baron of Saint-Cirq, and was to pay homage to them. It seems in fact that this donation mentioned by Father Foissac dates back to about 1340, made by Hugues de Cardaillac to Géraud de Geniès and concerns not Geniez but Aynac. For Edmond Albe, the origin of the castle and the lineage of Geniez goes back to Geniès de la Roque, knight of the castrum of Cajarc and mentioned in 1257. The land of Sauliac (not including Geniès and Liauzu) belonged in all seigniories, Middle and low justice, to the Abbe de Marcilhac. An act of 1259 mentions a Géraud Geniès among the knights of the castra of Cabrerets and Larnagol, vassals of Dorde Barasc. The de Génies also owed homage to the abbots of the Abbot de Marcilhac where they had their tomb in a chapel of the abbey. The first definite mention of the castle dates back to 1459-1461 when, during a trial between Jean Cornavy and Antoine Geniez, it is written: "Antoine Ginier is the lord of a borie called Genier and its belongings and because of it Lord of the river of Celle and of the pasturelands which are joining of it ... ".
