Notes: Château de Surgères is located on the right bank of the Ceres in Surgères Charente-Maritime is the historic heart, culture and tourism of the city. This vast castral, originally built in the Middle Ages, at the end of the Carolingian period, now includes a set of somewhat disparate buildings from the eleventh century to the church and the sixteenth century to the eighteenth century civil buildings enclosed behind ramparts and towers dating from medieval times.The walled belt castrale site dates from the late sixteenth century and a semicircular development of 600 meters in length. This wall enclosure, surrounded by moats originally, is flanked by twenty dissimilar towers and is listed as a historic monument since 1925. With the isolated tower in the gardens of City Hall and the Renaissance door, the walls are the remains of the ancient castle.
